Nuarsaz dessous

Introduction

Nice walk on the slopes of Mont Zerbion to reach the small village of Nuarsaz. This small grouping of cottages is part of the commune of [[Saint-Vincent]] even though the route takes place almost entirely in the commune of Châtillon.

Description

We begin the walk by following the little road to Travod, which runs in a southerly direction. After a few hundred metres, you make a left turn and find yourself facing a beautiful panorama of the peaks of the lower valley, with Dames de Challand in the foreground. Continue to a hairpin bend to the left while the village of Travod can be glimpsed just above. Continue along the little road that, after another couple of turns, leads us directly to Travod (1388m, 0h20'). The village, located in a panoramic position, has a small octagonal oratory that can be seen with a small diversions to the right of the little road.
After the short visit, we continue our walk up the little road, which climbs with a long series of turns interspersed with long, almost straight stretches. You gain height and enter the beautiful fir forest, which is extremely impressive after heavy snowfall. Every now and then the forest slopes down and gives way to interesting views. Continuing the ascent, one reaches the clearing that precedes the final destination: one begins to catch a glimpse of the first alpine pastures in the area and the bristling silhouette of Mont Zerbion with its characteristic Madonna on the summit appears in all its splendour. At the end of the last hairpin bend, we proceed to a marker post: here we turn right and soon reach Nuarsaz (1653m, 1h15').
From the village, the view is splendid: in particular of Mont Barbeston, opposite, and the not-so-far-away Mont Emilius.
The return is by the same route as the outward journey (1h00').
