Access

Raising to Quassolo is easy: the town is a short distance from the motorway exit on the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway, Quincinetto exit, and from the SS 26 road that connects Ivrea to the towns of Val d'Aosta. The nearest railway station is Ivrea, from which it is possible to continue by bus or taxi, while the reference airport for national and international connections is Turin-Caselle, about 60 km away. Local public transport services are available at certain times of day, especially useful for commuters and young people.

Introduction

Quassolo is a small municipality in the Eporediese area, located in the north-eastern part of Piedmont, a short distance from Ivrea and along the first foothills of the Alps. The territory covers about 4 km², with just over 300 inhabitants, and is characterised by an environment in which crops, woods and small streams define a typical southern Canavese landscape, with rural views and a strong local identity. The historic centre is arranged around the main square and preserves traces of a simple urban organisation, bearing witness to the agricultural origins and long history of settlement.

Description

Historically, Quassolo has shared the same fate as the villages along the Dora Baltea: its nucleus probably originated in medieval times, mentioned in documents from the 13th century. Between 1929 and 1954 it was a hamlet of Borgofranco d'Ivrea, before becoming an autonomous municipality again. The coat of arms currently in use was granted in 2000. The village is recognisable by its small churches, including the parish church of the Assunta and that of San Bernardo, which host events and exhibitions during the main local festivities.
The economy of Quassolo is traditionally based on agriculture, livestock farming and small craft activities, while today most residents move to Ivrea and neighbouring towns for work. Social life is punctuated by patronal festivals and fairs, such as the Sagra del Porcino, an autumn event that attracts visitors from all over the territory thanks to its gastronomic specialities, musical performances and initiatives linked to local culture: markets, photographic exhibitions, recitals and competitions enliven the village, offering opportunities to meet and enhance traditions.
From a naturalistic point of view, the municipality offers trails in the woods, suitable for trekking and mushroom picking, as well as panoramic viewpoints that allow one to observe the landscape of the Dora Baltea and adjacent valleys. Walks among the hamlets and historical paths are particularly appreciated during the summer and during village events.
