Val Grande National Park
Introduction
Between Lake Maggiore and the Ossola Valley, there is an area in which man has ceased to dwell and nature has regained possession of every space. The Val Grande National Park is not only a protected area: it is an experience of subtraction, silence and measure.
Description
The deep valleys, wooded ridges and abandoned alpine pastures tell of a harsh, isolated, authentic mountain. There are no roads, installations or guarded shelters here. There are traces, remains, paths that are sometimes lost. And this is precisely why Val Grande is considered the largest wilderness area in Italy.
Walking in Val Grande means accepting orientation as a skill, time as an ally, solitude as a value. It is not a mountain to be consumed, but to be traversed with respect.
