Cabane d'Arpitettaz
Introduction
La Cabane d'Arpitettaz is located at an altitude of 2,786 metres on the western slope of the Weisshorn, facing the Blanc de Moming and its imposing glacier, in the heart of the Val d'Anniviers (Canton Valais, Switzerland). This alpine hut is an important reference point along the itineraries that cross the valley, set in a scenic context of great attraction for hiking and mountaineering enthusiasts.
Description
The structure offers 30 beds and has a winter room, useful when the season is closed, guaranteeing hospitality even outside the main season. The rooms are essential and functional, in full respect of alpine traditions: the equipment includes basic lighting, availability of water, services for recharging electronic devices and the presence of a wifi network, designed to facilitate communication even at high altitudes. The hut is equipped with a hut book, where guests can write down their experiences and observations.
Openings are scheduled in June, July, August and September, according to the traditional seasonality of high altitude facilities in the Alpine area; the winter room remains accessible during the closing periods. The owner and manager are appointed in accordance with the provisions of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), which takes care of the conservation and management of the cabane in conjunction with the needs of the hiking community.
From a practical point of view, the Cabane d'Arpitettaz can be reached via well-marked paths that wind their way through pastures and moraine rocks, offering suggestive views of the main surrounding peaks; the ascent involves about 1,340 metres in height difference, with access usually from Zinal or the other villages in Val d'Anniviers. Water supply and lighting are guaranteed during the opening periods, while in the surrounding area it is possible to observe typical alpine species and glaciological phenomena.
The area is noted for the presence of fragile high mountain environments of considerable scientific and naturalistic value. The views offered by the hut encompass glaciers, large rock faces and high-altitude pastures, making the stay particularly meaningful for those wishing to explore the mountains of the Upper Valais. Among other historical curiosities, the path leading to the hut traces ancient access routes to the glaciers and bears witness to the centuries-old use of the valley for exploratory and scientific purposes.
Contact details for the hut and further specific technical details are available at the official website and via e-mail addresses managed by the Swiss Alpine Club. It is recommended to check in advance the opening status, access conditions and any specific provisions for the season, given the rapid environmental changes typical of glacial areas.
