Bobba Bivouac
Introduction
It is called Rifugio Giovanni Bobba but in reality it is an unattended bivouac, always open, located on the rocky knoll on the Truc Tremetta at an altitude of 2771 m. Situated on the eastern slope of the Jumeaux, it offers a stupendous panorama of the Matterhorn and the Breuil basin to all those who make it a daily destination, while for mountaineers it is always the best support point for the not easy ascents on the daring peaks of the Grandes Murailles. The hut is not guarded and consists of a small wooden and sheet metal house equipped with two bunk beds (16 places), a table, benches, and a kitchenette complete with gas cylinder. The place is decidedly panoramic: it constitutes a sort of belvedere over the entire Breuil basin, with a curious perspective on the Matterhorn, which appears very slender from here.
.Description
The Refuge was built in 1910 and renovated in 1982. It is dedicated to Giovanni Bobba (1866 - 1935), a mountaineer and explorer of the peaks of the Western Alps, who towards the end of the 19th century, together with Vaccarone, produced one of the first mountaineering guides to the Western Alps, which became the forerunner of the more recent Guidebooks of the Italian Mountains.
