Introduction

The Aldo Cravetto bivouac is located in the Vallone di Stolen, in Issime, Valle d'Aosta, at an altitude of 2,422 metres. This structure, restored in 2006, was named after Aldo Cravetto, an Alpine Artillery officer and a great lover of the Gressoney Valley. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, the bivouac is an important stop-off point for hikers and mountaineers tackling nearby peaks such as Monte Nery, Voghel and Becca di Vlou.

Description

The hut is housed in a historic building, once used as an alpine pasture on the Alpe Chlekch, and is distinguished by its traditional stone architecture with a barrel vault. It has 6 beds (initially 8) on two levels, equipped with blankets and pillows. The interior is cosy, with wood-panelled walls, a table with benches, a gas cooker and a wood stove that provides warmth during the colder months. A small solar panel provides energy for lighting, although it is not currently operational.
Outdoors, there is a drinking fountain installed in 2012 that provides water from a spring. In case of drought, water can still be collected from a nearby stream. The bivouac can only be reached by experienced and well-trained hikers, and is an ideal starting point for routes of varying levels of difficulty. The overnight stay requires a symbolic donation of 3 euro per person, to be paid to the Gressoney CAI.
