On 30 July 1848, Michael Innerkofler – one of the finest mountaineers and mountain guides of the last five years of the nineteenth century – was born in Sesto (in what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire). Alone or together with his brothers, he made a number of significant first ascents in the Dolomites, including the Cima di Undici, the Croda dei Toni, the Croda da Lago and others.
