On 22 August 1950, the Swiss mountaineers René Dittert, Alfred Tissieres and Gabriel Chevalley reached the summit of Abi Gamin (7,355 m) for the first time. They climbed along the north-east ridge after reaching the base of the summit, having approached from the north via Tibet. In addition to the three “summiteers”, the Anglo-Swiss expedition included the Englishman Kenneth Berill and was accompanied by the Sherpa Dawa Thondup.
