Cima di Marmontana, from Pillaz
Introduction
Complex route that alternates between steep sections and flat areas, made for those who prefer landscape to skiing. It should be done with not too much and stable snow.
Description
We continue along the road, which enters the valley with little gradient. After about half an hour, the road climbs a steeper section with a few bends and crosses the stream on a characteristic stone bridge. Continue along the road as far as Lake Vargno and then climb up some beautiful slopes with a few houses on the left. Before the last house, which has recently been renovated, cross over to the left among the larch trees. A small hollow is reached, and a steeper section leads to a col where there is an old hut. Cross the slope on the level and enter a steep little valley (watch out for possible snow falls in the last section). Leaving the track for Col Gragliasca to the right, continue traversing along small valleys to the basin below the summit. Continue into the little valley that leads to Col Marmontana. From the pass, continue to the left along the crest, then move to the Issime side and easily reach the wide peak.
