Saracen Tower of Barchi
Access
From the bottom of the valley (SS 28), between Garessio and Ormea, after Nasagò, cross the stream following the sign for Barchi; leave your car at the other side of the stream.
Introduction
Easy hike through the woods leading from a very scenic rocky outcrop where a tower stands.
Description
From the houses of Barchi (670 m), where there are two descriptive panels, climb up to the cemetery, then ignoring the turning to the right for Barchi Chiesa. We ascend again on a lovely cobbled road, crossing a lovely bridge. You pass some really huge chestnut trees. After passing a few houses, you arrive at the base of the Barchi tower, where you can read an explanatory sign. From the top (983 m), Barchi Chiesa, restored by the Germans, stands out...
The return can be made by the same route as the outward journey.
In summary: a fairly good day's walk, difference in altitude 220 m Dif. and 5.5 km for about 2h15 total (1h15 out and 1h return) + all the breaks to see the various places encountered. Average comfort: fair except for the final stretch.
