Access

To Borzone (Val Penna) one arrives by car from Borzonasca (easily reached from the Lavagna motorway exit). The car park is close to the imposing religious structure.

Introduction

There are several points of interest: the Abbey of Borzone (355m) is very old (papal bull of 1120) and a monumental cypress tree stands next to it.  Halfway along, there is a view of the 'face of Christ'. It is one of the largest megalithic sculptures in Europe.  The finishing point is the ruins of San Martino di Liciorno dating back to 1298, very characteristic in the dense forest.

Description

There are several signposts with various indications and you follow the Fie symbols that accompany you along the route.

By footpaths, you pass through several hamlets. You then come to a carriage road, with very little traffic, that leads to the village of Zolezzi. Follow it to the left until you find a bench from which you have a view of the 'face of Christ'. Continuing on, we come to the houses of Zolezzi (520 m) where the asphalt road ends. Below the village (but it is not visible) there is an artificial lake that is useful for generating electricity. Continue on a dirt road and beyond the locality of Colletta you lose altitude in the woods. Further on, the track splits indifferently: the marked one passes further down. Paying attention to the symbols and markers, you hit the right fork to the ruins of San Martino di Liciorno dating from 1298 (506 m) in the dense forest. We return by the morning route.
