Piz d'Agnel

Introduction

The beautiful and isolated Vallone d'Agnel valley ends at the pass of the same name after a very comfortable path graced by three emerald green lakes in the upper part. At the pass, it is necessary to descend on the opposite side and then traverse onto the glacier: depending on the conditions (there are some fairly large longitudinal crevasses), one can traverse upwards, losing little altitude, or downwards to avoid the crevasses: thus the height difference of the trip (also considering the ascent to the pass on the return) can go from 1100 to 1400 m. From the Flix Pass, one ascends the scree ridge to the summit of Piz d'Agnel without difficulty. Alternatively, from this last pass, it is possible to ascend the Tschima da Flix (3300 m) or Picuogl (3333 m) peaks on the opposite ridge, again with an easy route.

Description

We climb up the whole of the Agnel valley, which is in front of the square where we parked the car, always on a comfortable path; halfway up we find a beautiful plateau and leave some branches to the left (characteristic rock arch visible above). A ramp leads to the plateaus above with wonderful emerald lakes and from here you easily reach the Agnel Pass on fine scree. You descend on the opposite side towards Chamanna Jenatsch until you set foot on the glacier, ignoring the marked trail that runs immediately to the right. Depending on the condition of the glacier, you can either traverse to the left high up on the glacier or be forced to descend quite a bit to avoid some large longitudinal crevasses. One then climbs up the opposite detrital valley to the Flix Pass. The summit is easily reached from here via the scree rib on trail tracks. The return is always by the same route (do not be lured to the summit by the scree slopes that seem to lead left directly towards the ascent valley: further down there are impassable jumps).
