Access

From Pinerolo, Val Pellice provincial road to Bobbio Pellice, then 'Comba Carbonieri' signs to the car park near the Barbara Refuge.

Introduction

Excursion into the heart of the Barant Fauna Oasis; the starting point of our itinerary on foot is the Barbara refuge, but the possibilities are many: between trekking, skiing, snowshoeing and cycling, the Comba dei Carbonieri can be visited in all seasons. There is a great variety of species and endemisms in the area. To name but a few: The Fritillaria for flora and the Salamandra di Lanzai for fauna.

Description

From the car park near the Rifugio Barbara (1753 m), take the road up towards the col. This road was built for military reasons along with the barracks (Rifugio Barant is one of them) and other roads within the Oasis. During the ascent, observe the skill with which the road was built, stone by stone, by expert hands that knew a now-forgotten art: that of knowing how to integrate human works into unspoilt nature. In addition to being very beautiful, the road will lead you, without any diversions and with little effort, to the top of the Colle Barant (2373 m) where the refuge of the same name is located.
Just past the Colle, you will find the B. Peyronel botanical garden. Peyronel (2290 m), if you are in the area from 1 July to 31 August, have a look, it is really interesting.
