Deiva' Regional Forest
Access
You exit the motorway at Varazze, cross the town and head inland towards Pero. You ignore the diversions to the right for Monte Beigua and go straight for Sassello. Once on the road coming from Albisola, you pass the Giovo and Badani necks. Before entering Sassello, turn left into a square near a confectionery factory and park your car here.
Introduction
The 'Deiva' Regional Forest near Sassello is an interesting area of valuable woodland that can be traversed on an easy loop that winds through the area.
Description
You always follow the main road, ignoring various branches marked by signs. In 30' you are at the Castello Bellavista and, immediately afterwards, there is a crossroads and you go straight ahead (back to the left). After 20' there is a diversion to the right x the Giumenta picnic area, which can be reached in another 10' (+10 to go back...) - 510 m. Along the entire route you can read various panels telling you about the various environmental aspects of the area. A somewhat steeper climb finally leads to the Salmaceto Pass (650 m - 1h10). The path is now in a slightly more open environment and in 1h we return from Bellavista Castle 478 m, descend along the outward route to the car (352 m - 25' ) among tall fir trees of various types...
All in all: fair weather, a little warm. Diff. T, +300 m difference in altitude, 13 km, 3h45 tot.
