Introduction

Nice outing to discover the Swiss Mont Blanc in majestic surroundings.

Description

Leaving the car at the La Fouly car park (1592m), take the little road leading to the campsite and cross it. Shortly afterwards we find a sign indicating the start of the path to the A Neuve refuge (3h 30'). The path enters the forest and then continues (with little slope) in moraine terrain with low, thick vegetation. After about 50 to 60 minutes, the slope becomes steeper, a rocky spur is circumvented (it is also possible to climb over it, a path equipped with chains) and the stream is crossed on a small bridge. At this point, a series of zig zags begins, which allow you to gain height quickly and decisively enter the A Neuve valley. Mont Dolent and Tour Noir dominate along with the spires of the Aiguilles Rouges du Dolent. We also catch a glimpse of the refuge, perched high up on a beautiful rocky spur. Having left the meadows, we now find purely moraine terrain; the path rises again and heads towards the spur on which the hut is built. At this point there is the most 'technical' section of the entire route; in fact, we ascend a ledge (40-50 m) equipped with chains that leads us directly to the refuge where we find the friendly and welcoming managers. The panorama is grandiose.
The descent is along the same route as the ascent, which takes us back to La Fouly in about 2h30' - 3h00'.
