Introduction

A splendid mid-mountain village, located, as its place name (entre eaux) betrays, at the confluence of two rivers: the Dora di Rhêmes and the Savara torrent.

Description

The settlement is very ancient, in fact a small prehistoric necropolis has been found in the town. Its castle is also linked to a curious historical event: in 1242, Amedeo IV, Count of Savoy, deprived the then lords of Bard, Guglielmo and Ugo, authors of heavy harassment and abuse, of their feudal rights, while he rewarded the 'dissociation' of Marco, Ugo's eldest son, by entrusting him with the lordship of Introd. The latter, to further emphasise his difference from his father, took the surname of Sarriod, which still exists today. The Sarriod d'Introd family, later split with that of Sarriod de la Tour, played an important role in Valdostan politics throughout the Middle Ages, remaining owners of the castle until 1648.
The municipal territory is largely made up of a vast amphitheatre of glacial origin, marvellously preserved in spite of increasing anthropisation: it is no coincidence that it is in this municipality, and in particular in the hamlet of Les Combes, that Pope John Paul II spent his summer holidays several times, enjoying the tranquillity and lush nature.
