Description

There are several peculiarities of this small commune in Valtournenche: firstly, its size, in fact it has just over a hundred residents. Then there is the fact that it is one of the highest municipalities in Italy and the highest in the Aosta Valley (1815 m). But what characterises it most is the fact that it is not normally accessible by car. The inhabitants themselves have always wanted to preserve the agro-pastoral character of the territory. Since 1955, the chief town can be reached by a cableway that starts from the village of Buisson, along the state road leading to Breuil-Cervinia. The opening of a cableway connection has allowed the village's economy to emerge from the isolation that forced it to limit itself to agriculture, cattle breeding and small crafts. A number of accommodation facilities have sprung up, ideal for those seeking a quiet and peaceful holiday. In recent years, a popular downhill skiing area has also developed, much appreciated for its favourable exposure to the sun and a more temperate microclimate than that of other ski resorts in the valley, located at higher altitudes.
